Home restyling
A growing trend today is to hire an expert to get your home ready to go on the market. In the industry, we call it home restyling. Prices start at about $500 for a consultation and can go up to $50,000 for a complete redesign. Home restyling can increase the value of your home significantly. However, if these numbers are not in your budget, here are a few ideas from the experts.
Bring on the light – pick up a few extra floor lamps or table lamps and keep them lit for all showings.
1)
Too much furniture? -take some pieces out or move them around so that the space looks big and not cluttered (this is soooooo important).
2)
Too many accessories? – start putting some of your most worldly possessions away and keep only great objects out -less is better.
3)
Closets – clear them out of non seasonal goods, rearrange existing items by colour.
4)
FRESH FLOWERS – makes a house smell and look fabulous. Try to use one or two colours only!!
5)
Dried flowers & potpourri – remove them!!! They look dead and collect dust.
6)
Windows – keep blinds and curtains open and be sure to have the windows cleaned.
7)
Mirrors – a great way to reflect natural light and effective in making small rooms look bigger.
8)
Curb appeal – remember, you never get a second chance to make a first impression!! Rake the lawn, put away the recycling bins, get a new front mat….flowers in urns are great too!!!
9)
Bookcases – messy bookcases can make a room look unorganized and overcrowded. Arrange books by colour and size. Remove stray papers and magazines. Display framed photos but do so sparingly.
